David A. Soricelli, D.D.S., M.P.H., 2011 Award Recipient David A. Soricelli, D.D.S., M.P.H., received the Myron Allukian Jr. Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Achievements in Community Dental Programs Award at the American Association for Community Dental Programs’ annual symposium on April 10, 2011, in Pittsburgh, PA. Throughout his career, Dr. Soricelli has been an action-oriented public health dentist who has always advocated for the underserved. His distinguished career includes establishing a unique and effective oral health program for City of Philadelphia, which became a model for the nation. In the 1960s, despite enormous opposition, he established the first dental techno therapist program for local health departments. He also developed a unique quality-assurance program for oral health care. Dr. Soricelli has held many important positions within the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, including director of the division of dental health (1958–1972) and deputy health commissioner for community health services (1972–1981). In addition, Dr. Soricelli has served in many elected positions, including as president of the American Association of Public Health Dentistry (1971), president of the American Board of Dental Public Health (1974), president of the Pennsylvania Public Health Association (1977), and chair of the Oral Health Section of the American Public Health Association. |
